Windsor Events - Changing of the Guard Windsor Castle

The Changing of the Guard at Windsor Castle happens all of the year round and is a tradition that has been undertaken for many years. On most occasions the new Guard is accompanied by a band as they march along Windsor High Street towards Windsor Castle and again on the return journey with the old Guard.

During the months of April to July the Guard march every day except Sundays.

During August to the following March the Guard march every other day except Sundays.

Please remember that the Changing of the Guard is subject to the Weather.

Changing of the Guard In Windsor Castle - Timing.

1050 - The new Guard march along Windsor High Street towards Windsor Castle

1100 - Changing of the Guard ceremony takes place outside the Guardroom in the Lower Ward.

1120 - The old Guard returns to the Barracks marching back along Windsor High Street.

Please note that Windsor High Street is closed to traffic between 1045 and 1100 and again from 1115 until 1130 to allow the Guards and band to march.

It is free of charge to watch the Guards and band March to and from Windsor Castle but you will need and Entrance Ticket to the Castle to be able to watch the actual ceremony.
